Plan a Month of Social Media Posts in One Afternoon with AI
Posting on social media every week is one of the biggest time drains for small businesses and creators. With an AI assistant and a design tool, you can plan, write and design a full month of posts in a single afternoon. Here is the exact workflow.
What you need
- An AI assistant: ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini (free plans work)
- A design tool: Canva (free plan)
- A scheduler: Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram is free; Buffer has a free plan for several networks
Step 1: Set your content pillars (15 minutes)
Pillars are the 3 to 5 themes you post about again and again. Ask:
"I run [business] for [audience]. Suggest 4 content pillars for social media, with a one-line explanation of each and why my audience would care."
Example for a bakery: behind the scenes, new products, customer stories, baking tips.
Step 2: Generate the calendar (15 minutes)
"Create a 4-week social media calendar for [business], posting 3 times a week on Instagram and Facebook. Use these pillars: [list]. Show a table with date, pillar, post idea and post type (photo, carousel, reel)."
Edit the ideas. Remove anything that does not fit your brand and add your own dates, offers and events.
Step 3: Write the captions (30 minutes)
"Write captions for each post in this calendar. Friendly tone, under 80 words each, one question to encourage comments, and 3 relevant hashtags: [paste calendar]."
Read each caption and add a personal detail. Posts that sound real get more engagement.
Step 4: Design the graphics (60 minutes)
- In Canva, set up a Brand Kit with your colors, fonts and logo.
- Pick one or two templates and reuse them for consistency.
- Use your own photos whenever possible. Real products and people beat stock images.
- Use Canva's resize feature to adapt each design for Stories.
Step 5: Schedule everything (30 minutes)
Upload each graphic and caption into your scheduler with the date and time. Post when your audience is online; your Instagram and Facebook insights show the best times.
Step 6: Review and repeat
At the end of the month, check which posts got the most likes, comments and saves. Ask your AI assistant: "Here are my top 5 posts this month: [list]. Suggest 10 new ideas in the same style." Then plan next month.
Tips
- Reply to comments yourself. That is where real relationships happen.
- Do not post AI images of real people or fake reviews.
- Keep one or two "live" slots each week for timely news and offers.
