PDF Compressor

Make big PDF files smaller so they're easy to email, upload or share. Pick a quality level, compress, and download. It's free, with no sign-up and no watermark, and your file never leaves your device because everything happens in your browser.

💡 How to use this tool
  1. Choose your PDF file.
  2. Pick a quality level. Balanced works well for most files.
  3. Click Compress PDF and wait while each page is processed.
  4. Check the new size, then click Download.

Works best for scanned documents and PDFs with photos or images. Text in the compressed file becomes part of the page image, so it can't be selected or searched afterwards.

How does this PDF compressor work?

It opens your PDF in your browser, redraws each page as a compressed image at the quality you choose, and builds a new, smaller PDF. Nothing is uploaded to a server, which is why it's private and works without an account.

Which quality level should I pick?

Balanced keeps pages clear and readable on screen and in print at a much smaller size. Smallest file is great for emailing scans and receipts. High quality keeps fine detail for documents with small print or detailed images.

Why didn't my file get smaller?

PDFs that are mostly text, like reports exported from Word, are often already very small. Turning their pages into images can make them bigger, so the tool tells you to keep your original instead.

Will I lose selectable text?

Yes. Because each page becomes an image, you can't copy or search the text in the compressed version. Keep your original file if you need that.

Is there a size limit?

There's no fixed limit, but very long PDFs (over about 100 pages) can take a while and use a lot of memory, especially on phones.

Is my file private?

Yes. Your PDF is processed entirely on your device and is never uploaded or stored.
